We went on a study trip to Amsterdam! We stayed in Citizen M Amsterdam South, a hotel similar to the Hendrick. It was great. Verena from Architecturetours.nl organised visits to the Arena Hotel, Volks Hotel the Lloyd Hotel, Java Island Public Housing Scheme and the beautiful Het Scheepsvaartsgebouw. The Het Scheepsvaartsgebouw is an Amsterdam School building converted from the headquarters of a shipping company to a hotel.

Citing the "high quality of design" An Bord Pleanala grants permission for our second large Primary Care Centre at Maynooth Road, Celbridge.

"Having regard to the zoning of the site as set out in the current Kildare County Development Plan, the established character and pattern of development in the vicinity of the site and the  high quality of design of the proposed structure it is considered that, subject to compliance with the conditions set out below, the proposed development would not seriously injure the residential amenities of adjoining property or the amenities of the area, would not be prejudicial to public health, would be acceptable in terms of its impact on buildings and spaces of architectural and archaeological significance, would be acceptable in terms of traffic safety and convenience and would be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area." - An Bord Pleanala - 30th January 2014.

RUM Selection: May 2011

Picture
Our proposal for the Leprechaun Museum Cafe was featured in RUM magazine's May edition.

"Early summer is characterized by architecture  with  added value.  We  report  new projects  that  in addition to  being  both  beautiful  and  functional,  call for  democracy,  inspire  creativity,  engage and educate children.  The National Leprechaun Museum is located in an old factory building in central Dublin and opened in 2009.  The north façade faces a public square and is brightened up by hussey architects compact, modern and colourful cafe.  The Leprechaun is a fairy-tale figure from Irish mythology who leads people to treasure hidden at the end of the rainbow.  Inspired by this, the architects adorn the building with cables that glow in rainbow colours."

Architecture Ireland 255

Picture
Our submission to the Ranelagh Arts Festival 2011 was featured in Architecture Ireland 255.

"Lighting was the focus of Hussey Architects' proposal for the underside of the two LUAS bridges in the village, using a clear UPVC coated fibre optic cable system, famously used in the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque in Abu Dhabi. The design motif for the soffit lighting adopted the triangle of Ranelagh's once famous public space, and created a combined artistic and functional response to what are currently dark and forbidding places."
