Cherrywood Masterplan
In 2012 hussey architects were commissioned by Danske Bank to prepare a masterplan for their 13 hectare site at Cherrywood. The site was zoned for leisure activities to service the adjacent 200 hectare Cherrywood new town.
The masterplan concept is a defined route from Cherrywood Village Square, via the Schools District to the leisure hub or “Sports Square”. This “Healthy Way” (Sli na Slainte) would have clearly defined pedestrian, jogging, cycling and skating routes. Vehicular traffic would be segregated immediately on traversing the M50 and parking would be concealed within new tree planting.
The facilities are seen as simple geometric shapes contrasting with the organic landscape elements. Within the new planting to the north and south of the Healthy Way, orthogonal clearings are created to accommodate parking and open air activities.
The Healthy Way route follows the natural contours of the site and terminates its’ journey at the new Sports Square. Clustered around this new public open space would be a sports retail warehouse, a gym and swimming pool, indoor tennis courts, stables, paddock and open air archery. The Square itself would accommodate open air eating, playgrounds for children of all ages, and links to the primary walking, jogging, cycling and horse riding trails around the site.
